About The Position

The Yard Driver is responsible for safely moving trailers within the distribution center yard to support inbound and outbound operations. This role ensures trailers are positioned at dock doors on time, yard flow is maintained efficiently, and all movements are completed in accordance with safety and company standards. The shift for this position is the second shift, from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to operate or willingness to learn yard truck equipment
  • Basic communication skills (verbal and/or radio use)
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment
  • Ability to climb in and out of yard trucks frequently
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to [X lbs] as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a distribution center, warehouse, or transportation environment
  • Experience operating yard trucks, hostlers, or similar equipment

Responsibilities

  • Move trailers to and from dock doors, staging areas, and parking locations using a yard truck
  • Perform trailer spotting to support loading and unloading schedules
  • Maintain organized and efficient yard flow to prevent delays in operations
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support business operations and fluctuations in workload. This may include maintaining yard organization and cleanliness and, when trained and authorized, assisting with distribution center operations, including operating powered equipment.
  • Follow all safety procedures, traffic patterns, and yard protocols
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of yard equipment and trailers
  • Report equipment issues, damage, or safety concerns immediately
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Communicate with Operations, Receiving, Shipping, and Transportation teams regarding trailer needs
  • Respond to radio or system requests for trailer movement in a timely manner
  • Support prioritization of workload based on operational demands
