About The Position

The Safety Specialist, reporting to Manager, EHS & Compliance, works with DC leadership and employees to support and enforce policies that protect employees and keep the work environment safe and compliant. The DC Safety Specialist conducts inspections, supports accident investigations, owns, and facilitates safety training, and helps define the safety culture of the organization. Safety Specialists also ensure that safety-related training records, accident reports and other documents are completed and filed appropriately. The successful candidate will be a driven, solutions based, self-starter. They will be the driving force to ensure the facility is maintained in accordance with OSHA requirements, as well as supporting and enforcing policies that ensure a safe and compliant workplace. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Business, Risk Management, or a two-year University degree in Industrial Safety, Environmental Management (or related field), and/or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Supply Chain EHS
  • Knowledge of principles of accident prevention, safety, OSHA requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of ergonomic fundamentals preferred
  • OSHA 30 preferred
  • AED & CPR Certified Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the workplace to ensure compliance with Company Safety policies to provide a safe and secure workplace for employees, visitors, vendors, and guests.
  • Manage multiple, complex, and essential safety projects from conception to implementation.
  • Perform work task Risk Assessments and develop safety standard work in conjunction with associates.
  • Complete ergonomic assessments on job tasks, incorporating findings into applicable Standard Work.
  • Creates, supports, and implements strategies to establish and improve safety compliance.
  • Coordinate with any outside emergency agency, Fire, Police, Sheriff, OSHA, etc.
  • Develops, evaluates and recommends process and equipment changes and improvements to maximize safety and improve environmental impacts of operations.
  • Act as Emergency Response leader in the case of chemical spills, fire, serious injuries and other unplanned emergency events.
  • Act as the point of contact and lead the efforts for any regulatory visits such as OSHA, Fire Marshal etc.
  • Evaluate jobs and build out JHA and JSA programs.
  • Chair the site Safety Committee.
