About The Position

CTG is seeking to fill a Db2 Systems SME Pod Lead position for our client. This is a remote, 6-month contract role. The position requires serving as the technical lead and subject matter expert for enterprise Db2 for z/OS systems programming and administration. Responsibilities include providing infrastructure analysis, solution design, technical documentation, and implementation support for complex mainframe Db2 environments. The role involves installing, configuring, customizing, maintaining, and upgrading Db2 subsystems in standalone and data sharing environments, as well as administering Db2 data sharing, Sysplex, and Coupling Facility configurations. The candidate will perform software installation, migration, maintenance, and backout activities using SMP/E and established change management processes. They will manage Db2 backup and recovery strategies, monitor and optimize Db2 system health, performance, security, patching, tracing, SMF, RMF, and WLM configurations. Support for transactional middleware integration with CICS and IMS environments is also required. The role includes troubleshooting complex system issues, performing root cause analysis, coordinating with software vendors, and participating in an on-call rotation for a 24x7 production environment. Mentoring team members and providing technical leadership on infrastructure best practices and operational excellence are key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of Db2 for z/OS systems programming and administration.
  • Strong experience with Monoplex, Sysplex, and Db2 data sharing architectures.
  • Expertise in Db2 subsystem installation, configuration, customization, and maintenance.
  • Experience with SMP/E software installation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Db2 backup, recovery, cloning, and disaster recovery methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of Db2 security, health checks, patch management, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with SMF, RMF, WLM, and Db2 trace analysis.
  • Working knowledge of z/OS operating system administration.
  • Experience supporting CICS, IMS, storage management, and middleware infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with Db2 Connect, IBM Data Studio, and related administration tools.
  • Familiarity with REXX, CLIST, and ISPF for systems automation and administration.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in mainframe Db2 systems programming and infrastructure administration.
  • Extensive experience supporting enterprise production z/OS environments.
  • Proven experience with Db2 software migrations, upgrades, maintenance, and performance optimization.
  • Experience debugging complex infrastructure issues and working with software vendors to resolve technical problems.
  • Background leading technical initiatives and supporting mission-critical mainframe platforms.
  • Candidates must have infrastructure and platform administration experience. Application development-focused backgrounds are not suitable for this role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.

  • Experience with storage, middleware (CICS), systems programming, and z/OS platform management is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot complex system issues, perform root cause analysis, and coordinate with software vendors when necessary.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support a 24x7 production environment outside standard business hours.
  • Mentor team members and provide technical leadership on infrastructure best practices and operational excellence.
