About The Position

Day Water Treatment Process Operator - Marshall, MN Job Summary Monitor, test, and control the treatment of water and the waste water, assuring the quality of water for use and quality of discharge. Essential Job Functions Monitor the waste water and fresh water systems to insure that processes are operating safely, efficiently, and effectively under direction of the utilities supervisor and shift supervisor. Make adjustments to controls as required insuring that processing is consistent with MPCA (including NPDES permits and city agreements) and plant specifications. Performance Excellence involvement Perform all associated process testing and records results, including but not limited to sample collection, CBOD, TSS, pH, Dissolved O2, Temperature Monitoring, Sludge Management/ Content Testing, Salts Testing, Water Treatment- Solid Contact Treatment Clarification, and Reverse Osmosis Testing. Perform lab instrument maintenance, calibrations, and training. Lab data collection, organizing, and analyzing, Monitor effluent parameters and notifies the operator of concerns. Assist in training and cross-training to develop a team oriented environment. Conduct daily audits of chemical usage to insure that all systems are operating accurately. Ensure that repairs, maintenance, and preventative maintenance work is completed in the water treatment plant. May have to perform light maintenance. Work closely with other operators on shift to communicate and coordinate tasks which must be completed. Assist in job coverage as needed. Support Area Superintendent, Supervisor, and Management in their contact with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. Make rounds to check off-site wells and take monthly readings as necessary by the DNR. Perform sanitation and housekeeping duties of work are as needed. Conduct research and development for improvements in the Water Treatment processes. Aid in the scheduling and coordinating special projects in the waste water plant. Troubleshoot process upsets and effectively develop cost effective solutions. Perform duties in a safe manner, utilizing all approved safety equipment, and successfully completes all safety certification requirements. May perform reasonably similar or related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
  • Qualified as a Water Treatment Operator.
  • Desire to obtain a MPCA wastewater operator’s license.
  • Complete all required safety training; also follow and display knowledge of all safety procedures.
  • Have a general understanding of how to use a computer and email.
  • Communicate effectively through speech and writing along with other mediums such as email.
  • Must stay motivated and show initiative to complete tasks under limited supervision.
  • Display quality work through strong attention to detail.
  • Work overtime as necessary, including some weekends
  • Work with a team orientation by coordinating efforts with colleagues to complete tasks effectively.
  • Meet requests of supervision including but not limited to the essential functions listed.
  • Utilize all equipment such as DCS panel, computer, process equipment, laboratory testing equipment, forklifts, pumps, hand tools, or any other equipment for its created purpose.
  • Ability to use Pi to monitor and troubleshoot process.
  • Able to meet physical requirements and perform duties in working conditions listed below
