Woodard & Curran is growing, and we are looking to mentor and train someone who is hoping to jumpstart their career in the water treatment industry! This role is based in Lisbon, Maine and is a great opportunity for a recent high school or college graduate, as well as someone looking for a mid-career shift. The Operator in Training regularly participates in the daily operations and maintenance of the Water Treatment and Distribution facility as directed by the Project Manager. Requirements

  • No operator licenses are required to apply. We welcome candidates who are motivated to grow in the field and have the ability to become licensed.
  • A valid State of Maine motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Working knowledge of the principles, procedures, methods, equipment, materials, and tools employed in the operation' and maintenance of Water Treatment and Distribution Systems.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn the hazards and safety precautions involved in water treatment work.
  • Knowledge of computer applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 40 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check, pre-placement physical and drug screen before employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to those who already hold a Maine Class I Operator-in-Training Treatment and/or Class I Operator-in-Training Distribution License, but we will also consider strong applicants without licenses who are eager to pursue them.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in the water treatment and distribution industry preferred but will consider other related experience.
  • Experience with the maintenance of pumps, compressors and plumbing fixtures, or a background in maintenance is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor water treatment plant and distribution processes and equipment both manually and via SCADA automation, making adjustments as necessary to control their operation.
  • Perform water quality sampling, testing, and analysis to determine compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Operate, maintain, control, and perform routine repair of plant equipment, including preventive maintenance duties.
  • Utilize software programs for maintenance work orders and maintain all necessary records.
  • Perform general maintenance duties of plant and other assigned duties.
