About The Position

Oak Park and River Forest High School is seeking substitute teachers for various subject areas. Substitutes are responsible for reporting to the high school ready to perform the functions outlined in the teacher's lesson plan. This is a daily, as-needed position during the school year, with a pay rate of $30.00 per period. A long-term daily rate of $250.00 is applied retroactively after 20 days on the same assignment. Candidates must attend a group orientation before beginning work. Applications are accepted only through the District's online system. Requirements

  • Valid Illinois Substitute License or Professional Educator's License (preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to substitute for various subject areas.
  • Availability to work on a regular basis.
  • Subbing/classroom experience is preferred
  • Must pass an Illinois State Police and FBI background check (at the District's expense).
  • Must complete a physical exam (at the employee's expense either completed within 90 days prior to the starting date or first 30 days after the start of employment).

Responsibilities

  • Arrive on time according to the workday hours published in the Guest Teacher Handbook to check in, review lesson plans and prepare for the day.
  • Monitor, observe and report student behavior according to OPRFHS policies and procedures.
  • Maintain as fully as possible the established routines and procedures (including classroom management techniques) for the school and classroom to which assigned.
  • Follow regular teacher's lesson plans in a way that ensures consistency and optimal learning, and that encourages students to participate.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students within the assigned classroom and appropriately respond to all emergency situations.
  • May require traveling to multiple classrooms based on assignments.
  • Taking and submitting student attendance promptly and accurately at the start of each period.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
