About The Position

The Day Stocker exemplifies and ensures strong customer service in all areas of the job. This role provides a superior quality product that exceeds the customers’ expectations, maintains a working knowledge of department functions, and ensures an adequate amount of fresh inventory. The Day Stocker maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast and friendly Customer Service. They assist customers by making product suggestions, engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, in-store intercom announcements and one-on-one customer interaction. They answer and respond to incoming calls appropriately and receive and appropriately resolve customer complaints, reporting to the Store Director as needed. This role builds grocery displays, rotates and discards outdated or spoiled product, and ensures the cleanliness of the work area and department. They implement effective promotional and seasonal displays, assist with coordinating grocery sales promotions, and ensure that merchandise is correctly priced and displayed and that shelves are clean and properly maintained. The Day Stocker follows and maintains department standards and requirements, is responsible for ensuring proper code dating for all products within the department are being enforced, and assists with physical inventory taken every 6 months. They control inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality and freshness and maintain inventory levels according to division directives, and stock and rotate product. This role may assist with ordering Grocery products and maintaining inventory levels according to Division directives. They supervise the processing of all reclamation as well as maintain orderly and in stock conditions in the back room and all Grocery Department areas. They control shrink and cost and implement correct product preparation techniques. The Day Stocker uses and operates related equipment such as pallet jack, hand truck, scissors, knives, safety cutters and Sterilox machine. They perform receiving duties including breaking downloads, verifying orders using invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortage, stocking, and rotating product. They adhere to product temperature and storage guidelines and follow proper packaging techniques. This role processes administrative paperwork and maintains accurate department records, accurately completes, maintains, and monitors daily log sheets, sales and labor and other required paperwork and logs. They ensure that proper temperature levels for product are maintained, comply with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, Company, and code dating policies. They comply with all workplace safety rules and regulations and ensure safety, cleanliness and sanitation of work area, cooler, equipment, and display area, including code date compliance as required. The Day Stocker implements emergency procedures in the event of equipment and computer software malfunctions. They operate computer software and electronic ordering devices to order product and comply with and ensure compliance with company grooming standards and dress code. This role is responsible for performing all job duties and responsibilities safely, accurately and with honesty and integrity. Other necessary and required duties may also be assigned.

Requirements

  • Requires strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain professional demeanor regarding customers and co-workers.
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 50 lbs.
  • Bends, stoops and reaches frequently.
  • Pushes and pulls fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks.
  • Performs repetitious arm movement to prepare, package and display products.
  • Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Mental alertness is necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities.
  • Requires knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures.
  • Must have knowledge of product variety, standards, perishability, product handling, sanitation, labeling and department policies and procedures.

  • Utilizes cleaning supplies and equipment.

  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Scheduled hours will vary.
