About The Position

This posting is for all upcoming Permanent & Temporary Full-Time & Part-Time vacancies for the Day Program Aide position. Applications will be considered from July 10, 2026 - January 10, 2027. This posting will be used to fill current vacancies, as well as any further vacancies which arise during the period noted above. The role involves reporting to the Supervisor, Resident Services, and providing direct assistance to clients.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a Health Care Aide Certificate Program or Personal Support Worker Certificate Program.
  • Eligible for PSW Registry.
  • Previous experience in an Adult Day Program or community/home based support service.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide personal care such as toileting, personal care and feeding.
  • Must be able to lift, reposition and transfer clients in a safe manner as necessary, and transport clients in emergency evacuations.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills and ability to relate to peers and seniors.
  • Demonstrated compassion, respect and patience in working with cognitively impaired clients.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills with persons with Dementia, Caregivers, families, peers in a supportive and professional manner.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office XP (Microsoft Outlook and Word).
  • Must obtain a satisfactory Criminal Reference Check or Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to beginning work.

Responsibilities

  • Assess clients upon admission for personal care needs, mobility, and dining assessments.
  • Assist clients with wheelchairs, walkers, and cognitive impairments to get to scheduled activities.
  • Assist clients with toileting, personal hygiene, and feeding when scheduled, and as necessary.
  • Assist clients with medications brought from home as per the Adult Day Program Medication Management Policy.
  • Assist clients to safely participate in exercise programs, nourishments, and accessing transportation.
  • Assist with lunch set up, serving, and clean up, including dishes.
  • Assist with Recreation programming and may be asked to independently facilitate a recreation program.
  • Set up recreation equipment as required.
  • Rinse, bag, and deliver soiled items to laundry if necessary.
  • May be asked to facilitate ADP tours for guests.
  • Respond to, alert the team, document client accidents or unusual behavior, and report incidences to the Clinical Lead.
  • Receive and answer inquiries from staff, clients, and their families.
  • Lift clients manually and by hoists if necessary.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment such as urinals and commodes.
  • Replenish materials as required.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe working environment during program hours.
  • Work in accordance with applicable Health and Safety legislation and City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the job.
