About The Position

The primary role of the Day Hab Direct Support Professional (DSP) is to work alongside the people we support in order to help them to achieve their Personal Outcomes. This includes working with them to develop daily living, professional and informed decision-making skills while also supporting their health and safety.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Experience performing related job duties preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirements of the position and applicable law
  • Proficient computer skills preferred
  • Proficient writing skills with grasp of basic grammar and spelling
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with flexibility, keeping others informed and anticipating needs is essential
  • Must be efficient, well organized, and have excellent communication skills
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and satisfy criteria to be a driver for the agency is preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic training in Activities for Daily Living, including toileting, and eating skills, while ensuring a supportive and conducive learning environment.
  • Ensures all aspects of the individual’s developmental needs are addressed including behavior management, communication, nutritional well-being, and socialization.
  • Ensures the cleanliness of the site and program areas as they are used throughout the day.
  • Follows specific diet guidelines during lunch and snacks. Engage with individuals in the preparation of food, assisting with serving and cleaning up after lunch.
  • Encourages positive interactions and community integration by fostering relationships with other program participants, staff, community members, and participating in community activities that promote learning and social engagement.
  • Accompanies program participants to various recreational and community inclusive activities throughout the day.
  • Administers and documents medication administration as per AMAP training and Doctor’s orders, when specified.
  • Notifies site nurse/management of any changes in medication, participant condition or health.
  • Handles emergencies as they occur and notify appropriate supervisor/management and staff.
  • Reports all participant injuries, incidents, concerns and events to management immediately.
  • Intervenes when needed to protect program participants.
  • In absence of Program Director/Manager/Assistant, uses Agency/Program protocol to notify next appropriate Administrator.
  • Attends all staff meetings.
  • Maintains all required certifications and licensure – AMAP, SCIP-R, CPR, First Aid, NYS Driver’s License, as needed.
  • Transports participants to locations in the community, such as various outings, using a motor vehicle operated by a NeuSpark PDS approved driver.
  • Completes documentation in an accurate and timely manner across all forms of record-keeping, such as communication logs, daily notes, and compliance-related documents.
  • Always communicate in a respectful manner with all people including the people we support, supervisors, other valued team members, and members of the community.
  • Complies fully with NeuSpark PDS’s confidentiality policies by holding in strictest confidence all information pertaining to members, the people we support and their families, clients, providers, contractors, and employees.
  • Meets all safety training requirements; adheres to all safety policies and reports any and all unsafe conditions; takes measures to prevent accidents and/or eliminate conditions that pose a safety or health risk.
  • Meets all job requirements for participating in or delivering training.
  • Adheres to NeuSpark PDS’s standard of ethical behavior as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct as well as applicable laws and regulations.
