About The Position

As our next Diesel Mechanic, you'll be at the heart of our mission—keeping our street sweepers and equipment safe, reliable, and ready to serve the communities that depend on them. In this role, you’ll take ownership of inspections, diagnostics, and repairs, working hands-on with hydraulic, electrical, and air systems to ensure our fleet operates at peak performance. The job responsibilities below outline the core duties and expectations of a position, providing clarity on how the role supports Company goals. Requirements

  • High School or GED
  • 2 years of hands-on experience in a shop environment working with hydraulic, electrical, and air pressure systems.
  • Driver’s License
  • Must provide and maintain basic hand and diagnostic tools necessary to perform the job
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must maintain an acceptable driving record and successfully pass a motor vehicle record (MVR) check, background check, DOT physical, and drug screening in accordance with Company policy and applicable law.
  • Consistently follow safety procedures, conduct required inspections, operate equipment responsibly, and comply with all traffic, site, and regulatory requirements.
  • Plan and execute work efficiently and accurately, adapt to changing conditions, and maintain regular, dependable attendance.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors and team members, represent the Company appropriately, and promptly report equipment issues, incidents, or safety concerns.
  • Strong knowledge of machinery, hydraulic, electrical, and other mechanical systems.
  • Skilled in using hand tools, shop tools, and precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers) safely and accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough inspections of equipment and mechanical systems to identify potential safety hazards or operational issues.
  • Follow all safety protocols when working on machinery, including proper lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Monitor lubrication, fluid levels, and equipment conditions to prevent leaks, contamination, or failures that could impact safety.
  • Carry out assembly, repair, and preventive maintenance tasks with precision and attention to detail.
  • Follow blueprints, technical specifications, and torque requirements to ensure all components are installed and maintained correctly.
  • Complete assigned maintenance activities efficiently to minimize equipment downtime and maximize reliability.
  • Operate diagnostic tools such as multimeters and specialized software to identify mechanical problems accurately.
  • Utilize appropriate machinery and hand tools safely and skillfully during repairs and maintenance work on heavy equipment including sweepers, loaders, and backhoes.
  • Handle mechanical components, replacement parts, lubricants, and fluids safely and according to procedures.
  • Apply grease, oils, and other fluids properly to machinery, and manage disposal of used materials in compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Immediately report any equipment issues, malfunctions, near misses, crashes, or injuries.
  • Immediately escalate opportunities, work issues, or safety concerns to management.
  • Effectively communicate maintenance needs and best practices to equipment operators and team members.
  • Provide clear instructions and updates related to repair status, parts requirements, or changes in maintenance schedules to ensure smooth operations.
  • Adhere strictly to company policies and industry regulations related to safety, environmental standards, and equipment maintenance.
  • Complete all required documentation, including service reports, safety checklists, and compliance forms, to support operational accountability.
  • Respond proactively to unexpected equipment failures or operational challenges.
  • Diagnose problems using available tools and resources, adapting repair approaches as needed.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop solutions that improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
