Position Summary Day Custodians are responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment in all guest-facing areas during operating hours. This role focuses on high-traffic spaces, restrooms, and immediate response to guest needs to ensure an exceptional visitor experience. They are critical to the Science Center; they are the front line of our guest experience, serving as ambassadors while cleaning and creating a welcoming environment in our facilities and grounds. This shift is 630am-230pm.

Requirements

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, guest-facing environment.
Strong customer service and communication skills for interacting with guests and staff.
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper dilution, and safe handling procedures.
Familiarity with basic custodial tools and equipment (mops, vacuums, restroom cleaning kits).
Ability to follow daily checklists and respond promptly to urgent cleaning needs.
Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as part of a regular schedule.
Basic computing skills for logging maintenance issues and completing task checklists.
At least 1 year of custodial or janitorial experience in a guest-facing environment.
Ability to work weekends and holidays as part of a regular schedule.
Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety protocols.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

Experience in a museum, hospitality, or similar public setting.
Familiarity with basic custodial equipment (upright vacuums, mops, restroom cleaning kits).
Strong customer service background.

Responsibilities

Maintain cleanliness in all guest-facing areas during operating hours, including lobbies, restrooms, and high-traffic spaces.
Respond promptly to guest cleaning requests and spills to ensure safety and comfort.
Empty trash and recycling receptacles and replace liners throughout public areas.
Restock restroom supplies and sanitize fixtures regularly.
Perform routine floor care such as sweeping, mopping, and spot cleaning.
Clean glass, stainless steel, and other surfaces in public view.
Assist with event setup and breakdown during daytime operations.
Report on maintenance issues promptly to Facilities team.
Maintain cleaning supplies and equipment in operable condition.
Other duties as assigned.
