About The Position

Responsible for providing leadership and ensuring a safe and instructive environment for the City of Oak Park's state licensed summer day camp program. Provide a safe and healthy environment for a diverse group of program participants. Works directly with Camp Director. Organizes and directs daily activities with campers. Arrange special events, crafts, tournaments and onsite programs. Handle emergency situations in a calm and efficient manner. Report any situations immediately to the Camp Director. Attend mandatory weekly staff meetings. Attend mandatory pre-camp staff training. Participate in special events and professional development activities. Create and maintain a clean, safe, healthy, educational and fun camp environment. Be actively involved in quality interactions with children throughout the day providing particular attention to the physical and emotional security of each child. Ability to provide a caring environment and serve as an effective role model to children, co-workers and parents. Maintain an inventory of athletic and program supplies. May be asked to perform other duties related to the day-to-day operation of the department.

Requirements

Ability to play, organize and coordinate a variety of camp activities including games, arts & crafts, special events, tournaments, songs and field trips.
Ability to communicate effectively with the community and parents.
Must be physically able to perform duties as assigned
Initiative and resourcefulness in problem solving
Possess First Aid/ CPR Certification (Certification available thru the City of Oak Park)
Must have initiative, enthusiasm, and a passion for working with children.
Be available for all dates of assignment.
Willingness to wear a bathing suit and be comfortable in chest-deep water.
Available to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays

Nice To Haves

Aquatic experience preferred.
Previous experience in camp or child care setting preferred.
