About The Position

The Salvation Army Gateway Citadel Corps Community Center is looking for a Day Camp Counselor to assist in Day Camp/After-School programs. If the employee is under the age of eighteen, they will not be left alone with children without an adult present. The role involves working with children and performing some cleaning duties as needed in program areas. This is a full-time, 32 hours per week, temporary summer position with employment dates from 06/01/2026 to 08/07/2026. Experience with youth is required.

Requirements

Must have experience with youth.
Good communication skills.
Requires basic verbal communications with children and other employees.

Nice To Haves

Previous work with youth activities is desirable.
Valid driver's license and pass TSA MVR is a plus.
Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid is a plus.

Responsibilities

Assist with supervision of children during activities in the program.
Enforce rules, as necessary.
Lead and participate in all facets of these programs, e.g., recreation, snacks, crafts, field trips, etc.
When necessary, mediate disputes among participants, being sensitive to needs of all parties.
Clean eating, work, and play areas before and after activities.
Assist in other youth activities as needed.
Answer phone and take/forward messages, as necessary.
Help plan, schedule, and conduct the activities of these programs.
Maintain and store all supplies and equipment.
Train children in the care and use of games and equipment.
Record and submit daily statistical reports.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with Salvation Army “Safe From Harm” program.
Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers, and supervisors. This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors, and clients; respect of others’ property and person; and professional and appropriate communication to and about clients, co-workers, and supervisors.
