About The Position

Are you a dynamic and personable individual with a passion for fostering positive experiences for children? Join Common Ground this summer as a Day Camp Counselor, where you will shine in creating an engaging and enriching outdoor environment. As the leader for a group of campers, you'll guide them through a series of daily activities, cultivating values such as cooperation, respect, and community. Prior experience is not required; our comprehensive training program ensures you're well-prepared for this fulfilling role. This opportunity can be a fun outdoor summer job, or can mark the beginning of a rewarding career dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of children! Position Type: Seasonal/Full-Time (Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm) Season: June 8 th-August 15th (10 weeks) Training: June 8-12 Compensation: $11.00/ hour during Training Week (1 wk.) $13.00/hour during Camp weeks (9 wks.)

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old and enrolled in a secondary learning program or possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must successfully pass the FBI/BCI Background Check.
  • Must successfully complete Summer Camps Training.
  • Enthusiastic about working with a diverse and energetic group of children ages 6-15
  • Balances and prioritizes competing needs and maintains focus in the face of distractions.
  • Contributes to a positive and supportive team culture with differing personalities.
  • Flexible and adaptable in changing situations.
  • Maintains kindness, humor, and patience with children and coworkers, even while facing stressful situations.
  • Self-motivated and willing to step in when there’s a need to be fulfilled.
  • Physically able to navigate uneven outdoor terrain including slopes, steps, riverbeds, and woods.
  • Resilient and maintains positivity in challenging weather including rain, heat, and high-humidity.

  • Previous camp experience preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a group of 10-15 children between the ages of 6-15 while serving as their role model and primary caregiver Monday-Friday during camp hours of 9am-3pm.
  • Prepare, conduct, and adapt camp activities from provided activity plans according to weekly themes.
  • Engage campers with a fun, welcoming, and safe atmosphere for exploration, learning, and play.
  • Guide your campers through various activity areas, ensuring a safe and timely transition.
  • Provide the daily care of each camper in your assigned group including assisting with personal health needs and assist with personal/health/behavioral concerns.
  • Actively participate in the daily opening and closing of camp during the season including cleanup of facilities and preparation of program areas.
  • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules, policies, and procedures.
