About The Position

Responsible for coordination and supervision of Summer Camp program, Summer Camp staff and participants for children ages 8 – 14 at Camp Wewa. Work is performed under the supervision of the Events Manager in accordance with established methods, schedules, and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school graduate, or equivalent.
  • Minimum two-year experience working with children in either a summer camp or classroom setting.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public, agencies, and staff at all levels.
  • Ability to work well with a variety of age groups.
  • Ability to work continually through the Summer Camp schedule.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (to include potentially nights and weekends)
  • Ability to deal with stressful conditions in a calm and professional manner
  • Ability to perform various job tasks in all weather conditions
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • College degree in Education, Parks and Recreation Management, or related field is preferred.
  • A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Represents City at assigned program sites and field trips;
  • Directs counselor staff in responsibilities for operation of Summer Camp program;
  • Responsible for opening and closing of the facility;
  • Assists with training, supervision, and coordination of staff;
  • Maintains counselor staff schedules and adjusts staff work assignments, as needed;
  • Responsible for general welfare and safety of staff, participants, and facility;
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of Summer Camp program activities, field trips, and weekly schedules;
  • Responsible for proper inventory of equipment and supplies needed for the Summer Camp program. Ensures broken or dangerous equipment is reported to Supervisor and removed from use by staff and participants;
  • Responsible for maintaining daily attendance logs and field trip bus logs;
  • Implements daily camp activities, evaluating the progress of the programs and continually interacting with participants, staff, and parents;
  • Responsible for proper record keeping and reporting, to include registration forms, liability waivers, incident reports, medical forms, and other camp-related reports;
  • Participates in daily camp activities and weekly trips including swimming, hiking, sporting games, climbing, archery, and other children's activities, as scheduled;
  • Evaluates and suggests improvements, needs, hazards, and trends to Supervisor for further evaluation and follow-up;
  • Assists with set-up and clean-up of Summer Camp events and programming;
  • Promotes safe work practices and ensures compliance with City safety policies;
  • Attends meetings and other related events;
  • Interacts effectively with fellow employees, program participants, supervisors, school staff, professionals and the general public;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
