About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Day Camp Coordinator, the Assistant Day Camp Coordinator is responsible for contributing to the planning, organization, on-site supervision, and coordination of seven camps within the overall day camp program. Under the direction of the Day Camp Coordinator, this position will maintain an on-site presence at various camp locations ensuring quality standards. Assisting with lesson planning, staff management and participant outcomes will be a daily focus.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently in day-to-day operations with general direction from supervisor.
  • Ability to display professionalism with participants.
  • Ability to address complaints and resolve concerns.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience working with children and must have experience in day camp programs, before/after school care program, or similar programs or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Subject to both office and outside environmental conditions.
  • Subject to modified/flexible work schedules during high volume work periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and/or move objects weighing ≤ 30 lbs on a weekly basis. Lifting assistance is required when lifting > 30 lbs.
  • Ability to travel to and work at all Naperville Park District facilities.
  • Regular onsite attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, First Aid, CPR, and AED certification within two (2) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Camp Directors to ensure that lesson plans are being followed.
  • Coordinate field trips for camp locations.
  • Work closely with Camp Directors to coordinate special theme days.
  • Maintain on-going open communication with staff and notify Day Camp Coordinator of situations regarding the operation of the program. Such as broken equipment, equipment shortages, and facility damage. Report inventory in need of replacement or repairs to Program Manager.
  • Demonstrate and support District customer service standards.
  • Make visits to camp rain sites to ensure the program is effectively transitioning to these locations.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, guardians, and staff regarding rule infractions, questions, or concerns.
  • Act as a role model to all staff in interactions with participants.
  • Distribute written communication as necessary or requested.
  • Record and communicate any difficult situations or behaviors to the Day Camp Coordinator and Program Manager.
  • Record and retain accident and incident reports.
  • Substitute as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
