About The Position

Deliver high quality recreation services for residents, visitors and the St. Charles community by adhering to the District’s safety and administrative policies and procedures. Knowledge, Skills & Experience This position is well suited for someone with a friendly and positive personality who is productive and shows initiative, is an effective written and oral communicator, is reliable and safety-minded. Required: A minimum of two years of completed undergraduate studies in Elementary Education, Early Childhood, Recreation, or related field. Thorough knowledge of positive leadership techniques, children’s activities and games, developmental learning progressions, and appropriate discipline techniques. Maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certification or obtain certification within 30 days of hire. Maintain DCFS mandated reporter certificate or obtain certification within 30 days of hire. Must have Monday-Friday availability until 6pm. Preferred: Undergraduate degree in Elementary Education, Early Childhood, Recreation, or related field is preferred. A minimum of one year in a supervisory role and two years as a day camp counselor or similar position preferred.

Requirements

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Possess and exhibit the desire to work with children and the ability to interact with children in a positive manner.
Serve as a Park District representative, provide leadership and work effectively with the public, program participants, parents, and community groups and organizations.
Actively plan, organize, execute, and directly supervise the children’s programs at all day camp locations.
Assist in the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of day camp counselors.
Assist counselors with the development and preparation of age-appropriate curriculum activities.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Work with parents, resolve problems and deal with individuals and situations in a respectful, positive, sensitive and mature manner.
Assist with goals and objectives for the Day Camp.
Assist in the preparation and submission of records and reports (including attendance, payroll, etc.)
Direct and assign work schedules and duties, including shift coverages during scheduled and unscheduled absences as well as helping with breaks.
Work in typically unstructured settings and situations using a positive and enthusiastic attitude, imagination, and innovative techniques combined with solid leadership qualities.
Follow department protocols and Park District policies.
Be timely and accurate with paperwork.
Apply appropriate positive discipline techniques with children and provide training of the same to counselors.
Maintain safeguards over protected, privileged or confidential information, verbal and written, to prevent unauthorized disclosures.
Resolve problems with staff members and participants in a respectful, positive, sensitive and mature manner.
Ensure the safety of all campers and staff by following Park District Safety Guidelines.
Perform first aid and CPR and execute emergency procedures as necessary.
Attend weekend and evening trainings and/or orientations as required.
