About The Position

The Day Camp Program Coordinator plays a key role in keeping the daily flow of camp organized, engaging, and on track. This position supports the Day Camp Manager and leadership team by helping execute day-to-day programming, logistics and curriculum, ensuring that each session feels thoughtful, prepared, and fun for both campers and counselors. The Program Coordinator focuses on the planning and execution side of camp life. From building field group binders and coordinating camper choice schedules to preparing all-camp games and weekly themes, this role helps bring the camp experience to life behind the scenes. Working closely with other Day Camp leaders, the Program Coordinator ensures counselors feel prepared, programs run smoothly, and each week is set up for success.

Requirements

  • Have an interest in, respect for, and ability to work with children and people with diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to create an inclusive learning environment for campers from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Ability to remain calm, flexible, and resourceful in fast-paced or high-pressure situations.
  • Works effectively across departments and with leadership to achieve organizational goals.
  • Understanding of best practices in camp programming, risk management, and experiential education.
  • Prior experience working in overnight or day camp settings, preferably at Keystone Science School or a similar program in a leadership position.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications, from an approved vendor, or the ability to obtain before the first day of employment.
  • Age 20+ with an excellent driving record and a valid driver’s license.
  • Dexterity, auditory and visual acuity to operate computers and phones or mobile devices.
  • Auditory and visual acuity to interact with guests, sponsors, donors and clients on a daily basis.
  • Able to successfully manage multiple, high priority tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work for long periods of time without break during the conduct of presentations and events.
  • Able to lift 25 lbs. with minimal assistance.

Nice To Haves

  • Outdoor recreation experience in hiking, camping, backpacking or rock climbing.
  • Knowledge of science based curriculum (e.g. forest ecology, geology, biology).

Responsibilities

  • Daily Operations & Logistics Support day camp preparation, breakfast/lunch, bus schedules, and activity and curriculum prep and execution.
  • Create staff teaching schedules and camper choice rotation schedules (pending approval from the Day Camp Manager).
  • Schedule, set up, and staff weekly all-camp games, including assigning roles and gathering necessary materials and equipment.
  • Program Planning & Curriculum Support Create, implement, and support weekly curriculum and camper choice activities based on session themes
  • Prepare detailed field group binders for each session, including camper rosters, schedules, printed curriculum.
  • Staff Communication & Support Share key information with counselors at meetings, including weekly curriculum highlights, Earth Trek locations, Skills Day assignments, Community Partners, etc.
  • Work alongside the Day Camp leadership team to support counselors and assist the Camp Manager as needed.
  • Step in to support camper or staff concerns when required, while primarily focusing on programming and logistics.
