Day Ahead Trader -ERCOT
About The Position
Trades Luminant Energy’s daily, next day and balmo financial & physical electricity positions. Develops and maintains a profitable trading book in accordance with Luminant Energy Trading risk management policies and procedures. Obtains and disseminates market data to energy trading and marketing organizations. Constructs and offers in Day Ahead unit offers into the relevant RTO markets. Works with fuels and transmission team in managing fuel optimization and power basis risks. Uses market knowledge to maximize the profitability of Luminant’s specific ISO generation fleet intra-month. Conducts market research and gathers competitive intelligence on supply and demand forces of various NERC regions. Works with both ISOs and operations to coordinate unit outages. Assists in Luminant energy trading marketing efforts by providing pricing curves and market intelligence for relevant regions. Assists Energy professionals to ensure proper tracking and transmission of physical power flows. Assists physical and financial traders by monitoring short-term electricity prices and transmission flows and taking advantage of market pricing discrepancies.
Requirements
- 3 years experience in the trading of financial & physical power flows and wholesale power trading (or related industry knowledge)
- Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills
- Experience supporting or executing physical and/or financial power transactions, including familiarity with deal structuring and risk exposure management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills — able to distill complex market dynamics into clear, concise analysis for senior leadership and external counterparties
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with proficiency in Python, or similar tools for data analysis and modeling; advanced Excel required
- High degree of intellectual curiosity and independent judgment; comfortable operating with ambiguity and forming views in fast-moving markets
