About The Position

Idaho Power is looking for a Day Ahead Balancing Operator or Senior to join their Power Supply team. This role is crucial for providing safe, reliable, and affordable energy to communities in Idaho and Oregon. The position is based in Boise, Idaho, with flexible scheduling and the option for up to 40% remote work. Relocation assistance may be provided.

Requirements

Ability to obtain NERC Certification within 12 months of date of hire.
Bachelor's degree in economics, accounting, finance, business, or engineering OR equivalent training and/or experience.
4 years of experience in natural gas or power trading/scheduling environment OR 4 years of experience in natural gas or power system operations (for Day Ahead Balancing Operator).
6 years of experience in natural gas or power trading/scheduling environment OR 6 years of experience in natural gas or power system operations (for Senior Day Ahead Balancing Operator).
Knowledge of natural gas and power trading and scheduling processes in the western U.S.
Knowledge of power system operations.
Knowledge of interconnected regional transmission operations, transmission transfer capabilities and delivery points.
Knowledge of power plant operations.
Knowledge of emergency action procedures and ancillary services.
Knowledge of risk management principles and policies.
Knowledge of power trading, scheduling, and accounting applications.
Knowledge of gas operations.
Knowledge of hydro system operations.
Knowledge of contracts and credit.
Knowledge of economic, risk, or financial analysis, FERC, NERC, WSPP, NAESB, WECC, RC West, DOE, and US Customs requirements.
Skills in wholesale energy marketing, trading, and scheduling.

Current NERC certification.

Responsibilities

Reliably and economically balance the load and resources of a bulk power system on a day-ahead and short-term basis.
Forecast load and evaluate power supply options, including Idaho Power generation resources, contracts, and wholesale purchases.
Develop and implement a daily load and resource plan to meet forecasted load reliably and economically, while complying with regulations.
Perform scheduling and energy transactions with counterparties to optimize Idaho Power's generation, market purchases, and transmission resources safely, reliably, and economically.
Negotiate and purchase power and transmission from other counterparties in the region.
Provide information and support to real-time employees and other groups for the operation of the bulk power system.
Obtain and maintain NERC certification.
Engage in continuous training.
Perform occasional travel.
