About The Position

The State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) is seeking a Database Administration Specialist or Database Systems Administration AI Specialist to join the Information Technology Services/Engagement & Operations team. Requirements

  • Associate degree in a related field required.
  • Superior knowledge of the following required: SQL Server 2019, DB2 LUW 11.1, Oracle WebLogic 14 or later versions Oracle 19c or later database concepts and design database system capacity planning, auditing and performance tuning
  • Superior understanding of database utilities, maintenance, performance and tuning and recovery.
  • Thorough understanding of Windows and UNIX scripting, Python, TSQL, and PL/SQL required.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools including Microsoft Copilot, Claude, Claude Code and Copilot Studio required.
  • Understanding of prompt engineering required. (Grade 13 AI Only)
  • Superior organizational skills and high degree of accuracy and attention to detail required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Seven or more years’ experience in database systems administration preferred.
  • Familiarity with AI agent creation, deployment and lifecycle management for departmental and enterprise environments preferred. (Grade 13 AI Only)

Responsibilities

  • Proactively research and establish installation, upgrade and maintenance procedures for supported database systems.
  • Research, design and develop security schemes for supported database systems.
  • Execute database backup and recovery.
  • Develop, test and implement database maintenance jobs.
  • Develop methods and procedures for monitoring databases and systems to pinpoint and resolve database and system problems.
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools such as Microsoft Copilot, Claude and Claude Code to accelerate database administration tasks including code generation, troubleshooting and documentation.
  • Design, build and deploy AI agents using Microsoft Copilot Studio for departmental and enterprise use cases. (Grade 13 AI Only)
  • Stay current with emerging AI technologies and evaluate their applicability to database systems administration, design, and performance optimization. (Grade 13 AI Only)
  • Apply preventative database and system maintenance patches.
  • Provide after-hours (24/7) on-call support, including weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
