About The Position

As the Database Engineer, you will lead the administration, reliability, and performance of Vancity’s mission-critical Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) database platforms. You will be accountable for ensuring these database services are secure, highly available, recoverable, and operate at peak performance. Working closely with application, infrastructure, security, and governance partners, you will establish standards, drive automation, and provide expert-level technical leadership to reduce operational risk and improve member-facing service outcomes.

This is a Full-time, Permanent role based at our Head Office in Vancouver, British Columbia and will report directly to the Manager, Database Administration.

Our head office is based in Vancouver. While this position is for an existing vacancy and provides a hybrid work arrangement, you will be expected to be on-site for events and business demands when needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical discipline
• 5+ years of industry experience in Database Administration in a high-volume Online Transaction Processing environment
• In depth experience with Microsoft SQL Server

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL or other RDBMS
• Experience with PowerShell
• Experience with migrating workloads to Cloud
• Experience with Microsoft Azure database technologies

Responsibilities

• Defining, owning, and enforcing database standards and policies, and review designs to ensure optimal performance, security, and storage efficiency
• Operating and maintaining enterprise database platforms, proactively and reactively ensuring performance, availability, reliability, and security of business‑critical systems.
• Evaluating and implementing new database technologies to meet evolving business and platform needs
• Coordinating database work across projects and operations, supporting prioritization, delivery planning, and performance feedback to management
• Providing controlled database access to project teams, ensuring compliance with privacy, security, and financial regulatory requirements
• Mentoring and coaching junior roles, providing technical guidance and best practices to strengthen team capability
