Database Engineer Level 2 (FORECASTED)

Columbia Technology Partners

About The Position

This role provides expert support in designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining database systems. It involves creating relational and/or object-oriented databases, building database parsing and loading tools, and ensuring effective data storage, retrieval, and flow. The position focuses heavily on early lifecycle activities-from requirements development through system acceptance and Initial Operational Capability (IOC). The Database Engineer (DBE) ensures database structures align with system architecture, balancing factors such as data volume, user load, distribution patterns, performance, retention, security, and domain constraints. The role also supports system analysis, improvement recommendations, and transforming complex requirements into usable data products and structures, often leveraging queries, scripts, macros, and cloud-based database technologies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Database Engineer on programs or contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's, an additional four (4) years of DBE experience may be substituted.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for all applicants.
  • This position requires an active Security Clearance with appropriate Polygraph.

Responsibilities

  • Support database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, and data flow/analysis activities.
  • Evaluate and recommend system improvements, optimizations, and maintenance approaches.
  • Develop both long-term and short-term requirements for database design and administration.
  • Translate requirements and raw data into functional database schemas by creating or updating ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros; manipulate data into master files.
  • Build database structures that align with overall system architecture and perform trade-off analyses involving data volume, user load, distribution, performance, retention, and security constraints.
  • Develop requirement recommendations for business and IT systems from project initiation through completion-across simple to complex system environments.
  • Utilize queries, tables, ODBC connections, and cloud storage/retrieval methods to support data integration and system development.
