About The Position

The Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) is responsible for evaluating and enhancing the security posture of complex computing environments. This role involves conducting technical security assessments to identify vulnerabilities, verifying compliance with Information Assurance (IA) standards, and recommending effective mitigation strategies. The ISSE defines and validates system security requirements, develops secure system designs, and integrates cybersecurity capabilities across networking, computing, and multi‑enclave environments with varying classification levels. This position supports architects and developers by ensuring consistent implementation of agency security policies and enterprise solutions. The ISSE contributes to secure system architectures, enforces trusted relationships across external systems, and provides continuous risk assessment and mitigation throughout the system lifecycle. Responsibilities include reviewing certification and accreditation documentation, supporting security authorization processes, and applying deep expertise across a broad range of security engineering disciplines.

Requirements

  • Twelve (12) years of ISSE experience supporting programs of similar scope and complexity.
  • Recent (within the last five years) experience with cybersecurity principles and technologies such as access control, authorization, identification and authentication, PKI, and enterprise/network security architecture.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, Information Security System Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • In lieu of a bachelor's degree, an additional four (4) years of ISSE experience may be substituted.

  • DoD 8570 compliance with IASAE II is required

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead security engineering representative on teams designing, developing, implementing, evaluating, or integrating secure systems, networks, and enclave environments.
  • Apply knowledge of cybersecurity policy, procedures, and workforce structure to develop secure architectures and solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with customers and cross‑functional project teams.
  • Support the design and implementation of trusted relationships among external systems and architectures.
  • Conduct security planning, assessments, risk analysis, and risk management activities.
  • Identify comprehensive security requirements for handling government data.
  • Perform secure system or network design across multiple enclaves with differing classification or data protection needs.
  • Recommend system-level solutions that address identified security requirements.
  • Assess and mitigate system security risks throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Review certification and accreditation (C&A) documentation for completeness and compliance.
  • Support authorization activities aligned with NISCAP, DIACAP, NIST RMF, and NSA/CSS security engineering processes.
  • Apply system security engineering expertise in areas including: System security design and engineering lifecycle Cross-domain solutions COTS/GOTS cryptography Identification, authentication, and authorization System integration and risk management Intrusion detection, contingency planning, and incident handling Configuration and change management Auditing, testing, and IA principles (confidentiality, integrity, non‑repudiation, availability, access control)
