About The Position

Database Developers design, build, and optimize the data storage systems that applications depend on. They write complex queries and stored procedures, design schemas that support application requirements, tune performance, manage data migrations, and ensure data integrity. The role combines deep SQL knowledge with understanding of application behavior and business data requirements.

Requirements

  • Really good knowledge of datatypes, data type conversion, and different types of data sources (ODBC, Excel, text, XML).
  • Mastery of SQL – SQL Server (SSRS, SSIS) and mySQL.
  • Mastery of SQL Server stored procedures and best practices – i.e. temp tables, table variables, cursors, loops.
  • Relational database and table design – data modelling, entity-relationship-design.
  • Some DBA knowledge – SQL Server jobs (setting up, scheduling, job history, activate /deactive), user permissions, indexes, linked servers, SQL Server logs.
  • Experience working with source system data using SQL with (SQL, Aurora, Redshift, Snowflake).
  • Familiarity with reporting tools such as Pyramid or Power BI.
  • Knowledge, skill, and development equivalent to the completion of a four-year college degree with course work in computer science or directly related fields.
  • Extensive knowledge of IT concepts and principals, theories and functions of computer systems, and the principles and techniques of IT documentation.
  • Proven work experience as an ETL developer.
  • Extensive knowledge of coding languages, including ODBC, Excel, text, XML.
  • Proficiency in warehousing architecture techniques.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems.
  • Ability to read and interpret.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of computers and computer systems including hardware and software, such as, MS Word and/or Word Perfect, MS Excel, and/or etc.
  • Knowledge of email and maintaining calendar schedules on the computer.
  • Ability to effectively participate in and profit from continuing education, both formal and in-service training setting
  • Ability to analyze data logically and exercise sounds judgment in defining, evaluating, and solving difficult technical and operational problems where solutions may be of a precedent-establishing nature.
  • Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients.
  • Worker is expected to maintain regular attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in P&C Insurance, developing insurance related activities in web applications, and working with a small development team desired.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and coding the data warehousing system to desired company specifications as defined by end users.
  • Conducting preliminary testing of the warehousing environment before data is extracted.
  • Ensures Data Quality and Accuracy.
  • Extracting company data and transferring it into the warehousing environment.
  • Follows approved life-cycle methodologies, creates design documents, and performs program coding and testing.
  • Develops and conducts program tests; develops test plans and data, performs and/or oversees testing to verify the program function correctly and ensure modifications haven’t caused error to other areas.
  • Resolves technical issues through debugging, research and investigation.
  • Conducts and coordinates investigative and analytical studies of complex system functions and operations to select approaches for the resolution of complex problems or improving the efficiency of existing systems.
  • Develops complex program documentation using structure diagrams, behavior diagrams and interaction diagrams, system and program flowcharts, test plans and conversion plans.
  • Reviews the development and coding of programs and systems. Ensures appropriate documentation is utilized in information systems projects.
  • Performs post implementation reviews to determine if the system cost objectives of the project were achieved.
  • Analyzes and recommends new procedures and techniques to improve the supported systems.
