About The Position

HII Mission Technologies is seeking a Database Architect to join their team. The role supports a hybrid work schedule out of their Newport News, VA location. This position will lead enterprise and solution-level data modeling, develop and govern data standards, partner with engineering, cybersecurity, and product teams to translate business requirements into scalable data architectures, and create and maintain data architecture artifacts that support AI, analytics, and enterprise systems. The role also involves monitoring and enhancing database and data-pipeline performance, providing architectural oversight for data layers, contributing to new architectural principles, and collaborating with program and governance teams for tool evaluations and data governance rollouts.

Requirements

  • 15 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 13 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 10 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 19 years relevant experience.
  • Advanced Data Modeling: Expert in conceptual, logical, and physical modeling; dimensional and relational design.
  • Data Governance & Metadata: Skilled in cataloging, classification, lineage, and applying enterprise governance frameworks.
  • Architecture Standards: Ability to define and enforce standards that ensure interoperability, reuse, and consistency across divisions.
  • AI‑Ready Data Architecture: Understanding of data layers and pipelines required for AI and model orchestration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead enterprise and solution‑level data modeling (conceptual, logical, physical) across complex applications.
  • Develop and govern data standards, metadata structures, and reusable architecture patterns aligned to enterprise governance practices.
  • Partner with engineering, cybersecurity, and product teams to translate business requirements into scalable data architectures.
  • Create and maintain data architecture artifacts that support AI, analytics, and enterprise systems consistent with the enterprise AI stack and governance framework.
  • Monitor and enhance database and data‑pipeline performance through capacity planning and modeling.
  • Provide architectural oversight for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and access layers.
  • Contribute to the development of new architectural principles, patterns, and reusable components.
  • Collaborate with program and governance teams to support tool evaluations and enterprise‑wide data governance rollouts.
