The Database Administrator will manage and improve a large, primarily on-premises Microsoft SQL Server environment for an established recovery-audit firm that helps large corporations identify and recover accounts-payable overpayments. The estate includes databases ranging from 30 to 40 terabytes running on Pure Storage FlashArray. The role will establish and maintain deliberate approaches to database access, permissions, standards, monitoring, backups, recovery, and performance, while also handling operational requests and serving as an escalation point for database issues. The position is expected to assess the environment, recommend improvements, and lead those changes through implementation. Responsibilities include SQL Server administration, high availability and disaster recovery, performance tuning, automation, storage-supported database copying and promotion, and coordination with infrastructure, data engineering, development, an infrastructure-as-a-service provider, and an offshore DBA. The company is investing in AI; the DBA will assess how tools such as Claude and Copilot connecting to the environment affect databases and applications. The role is also expected to develop PostgreSQL and AWS skills as a new product is built on AWS with PostgreSQL, within six months to a year. The job is remote in Toronto. The company describes the team as easygoing and collaborative, with Toronto-area colleagues who meet occasionally. Compensation is a base salary of $100,000–$130,000, with competitive vacation and personal days and comprehensive health benefits.
