About The Position

Santa Monica College is hiring a Database Administrator to perform lead, expert-level professional work administering, planning, developing, and implementing strategic data models. The role supports the availability, performance, accessibility, security, efficiency, and integrity of databases used by District-wide applications, including the Student Information Systems (SIS). The position is scheduled for 40 hours per week, 12 months per year, on the Santa Monica College main campus. It combines in-person and remote work; employees must be available to work on campus as assigned. The current arrangement requires at least one in-office day per week, with more in-person attendance expected at the start of employment. Remote arrangements require review and approval and are not guaranteed before hire. The successful candidate will independently perform the full scope of database administration in an Oracle environment and have experience monitoring and maintaining the Banner system. The work includes planning, analyzing, installing, configuring, patching, upgrading, monitoring, and troubleshooting databases and application servers; supporting users; and collaborating with IT colleagues on application, software, and system maintenance. Oracle APEX experience is preferred but not required. Experience with Unix-based database systems and Unix Shell scripting, as well as Weblogic and Tomcat application servers and data and server security, is also relevant. The minimum qualifications are a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and four years of experience administering databases, database application servers, web application servers, and n-tier systems architecture in a large-scale Oracle environment. Qualifying experience and/or education of the same kind, level, or amount may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. The posted salary does not reflect the one unpaid furlough day per month implemented July 1, 2026, for the 2026–27 fiscal year, amounting to approximately a 5% salary reduction. Step and longevity advancement are also frozen for at least one year. Fully paid health, dental, and vision benefits continue to be offered. All candidates must be authorized to work in the United States; the District cannot provide sponsorship.
