About The Position

As a Database Administrator at Independent Living Systems (ILS), you will be responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of the organization's database systems to ensure their reliability, security, and performance. This critical role involves managing database storage that supports business applications and analytics, enabling seamless access to accurate and timely information. You will develop and tune SQL queries, design database schemas, and implement clustering and replication strategies to enhance system availability and scalability. Collaboration with development teams, system administrators, and business stakeholders is essential to align database architecture with organizational goals and compliance requirements. Your work will ensure a robust, efficient data infrastructure capable of supporting evolving business needs across the United States.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator managing relational databases in a production environment.
  • Three to five years of Microsoft SQL server and experience writing complex queries, stored procedures, and triggers.
  • Solid understanding of database design principles, data modeling, and normalization.
  • Experience with performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
  • Familiarity with database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Knowledge of database security best practices and user access management.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Windows clustering and replication technologies to ensure high availability.
  • Six to eight years of experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Relevant experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of experience with Microsoft SQL Database Administration managing relational databases in a production environment.
  • Experience with automation tools and scripting languages such as PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies like Kubernetes.
  • Three to five years of experience with DB2 and SAS technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain relational database management systems (RDBMS) to support business applications.
  • Develop, evaluate, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts to improve database performance and reliability.
  • Monitor database performance and implement performance tuning and optimization techniques to ensure high availability and responsiveness.
  • Manage database security, including user access controls, data encryption, and compliance with data protection policies.
  • Plan and execute database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to safeguard organizational data.
  • Collaborate with software developers and IT teams to support database development and integration efforts.
  • Implement Microsoft Windows clustering and replication solutions to enhance database scalability and fault tolerance.
  • Conduct data modeling and schema design to support new application requirements and data analytics initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues promptly to minimize downtime and data loss.
  • Document database configurations, procedures, and policies to maintain operational consistency and knowledge sharing.
