The Database Administrator provides database management and technical support for assigned database systems. This role is responsible for supporting reliable database performance, backup and recovery processes, troubleshooting, and ongoing database maintenance to meet current and future organizational needs. The position works closely with systems architecture, application development, and application support teams to maintain a secure, efficient, and high-performing database environment. This position is distinguished by its advanced database knowledge, ownership of database outcomes start-to-finish, and responsibility for identifying problems, determining root causes, recommending solutions, and supporting long-term improvements in database performance. The role also serves as a senior technical resource by helping to train and develop technical support and application staff in using online processing database environments. The Database Administrator is expected to stay current with industry trends, identify effective tools for troubleshooting and maintenance, and develop methods to continually assess database performance and identify areas for improvement.
