About The Position

Work with some guidance and supervision to design, develop and administer SQL Server databases and data warehouses. Maintain data integrity and security for all HealthStream databases. Assure acceptable performance of database portion of HealthStream products offered by HealthStream. Participate with the rest of the DBA team on code deployments, on call rotation and maintenance down time windows.

Requirements

  • Four year degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft SQL Server version 2017 and newer.
  • Demonstrated experience with all of the following required: log shipping, replication, performance tuning, Transact-SQL, SSI, MSCS, and Always On
  • Experience as a database administrator including on-call duties required
  • Experience with tuning query performance, examining execution plans, using Profiler traces and other performance diagnostic tools required

Nice To Haves

  • Additionally, familiarity with MySQL, Postgres, and NoSQL databases preferred
  • Experience with the following preferred: Clustered environment, Reporting Services, SAN storage
  • Experience with SQL infrastructure in the datacenter, Microsoft Azure, and AWS is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participate with the DBA team in maintaining appropriate processes and controls for maintaining a highly available environment.
  • Install and maintain SQL Server in production, development, DR and quality assurance environments
  • Tune SQL Server configuration settings, queries, physical and logical database design.
  • Investigate and resolve data issues as needed.
  • Prioritize work methodically
  • Recognize confidential data issues and maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform deployments in production environment as needed.
  • Perform routine database maintenance and software upgrades.
  • Develop, test and execute disaster recovery plan as needed.
  • Backup and restore databases on live, development, DR or quality assurance servers as needed.
  • Identify areas of improvement and provide design models for SQL Server queries, stored procedures and functions
  • Review database utilization and provide growth models so no database ever unexpectedly outgrows its allocated space.
  • Create and modify relational and dimensional data models
  • Develop database queries as requested.
  • Develop SQL Server Integration Services routines for populating data warehouse and processing Analysis Services cubes.
  • Participate in a team of database administrators in all areas of support, development and tuning and operational excellence.
  • Must be able to work in a strong team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to handle high volumes of work without error.
  • Learn from and backup other database administrators as necessary.
  • Be on call on a rotating basis and troubleshoot database issues individually or through a team effort.
