About The Position

Zenfreed is seeking a Database Administrator (SQL DBA) to join their team. This role is responsible for the maintenance, enhancement, and design of databases, including data dictionaries, physical and logical models, and performance tuning. The DBA will work with various database management systems, ensuring data integrity, security, and efficient performance. This position requires a strong understanding of SQL, PowerShell or Python, and experience with both on-premises and cloud database environments.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in implementing native, cloud-native, and hybrid cross-site backup and recovery strategies.
  • 3-5 years of experience configuring SQL Server on physical hardware, VMs, and cloud IaaS virtual machines.
  • 3-5 years of experience enforcing data masking, encryption (TDE), and Row-Level Security for internal customers.
  • 3-5 years of experience managing automated indexing, statistics, and integrity checks across fragmented environments.
  • 2-3 years of experience automating hybrid environment configuration using PowerShell, dba tools, and Cloud CLIs.
  • 2-3 years of experience analyzing metrics across physical servers, IaaS VMs, and PaaS endpoints.
  • 3-5 years of experience identifying bottlenecks, rewriting T-SQL, and resolving locking/blocking issues.
  • 2-3 years of experience managing connectivity between on-premises SQL Servers and cloud environments.
  • 2-3 years of experience configuring Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, or AWS RDS SQL Server.
  • Experience in computer systems analysis or computer programming work.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer programming and systems design.
  • Knowledge of computer operations, systems, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of project control and cost estimating techniques.
  • Knowledge of computer programming languages.
  • Knowledge of data processing flow charting techniques.
  • Knowledge of database structures and theories.
  • Knowledge of current database technologies.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; unable to offer sponsorships.
  • Must undergo a background check and drug screening for employment.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of experience moving workloads from on-premises to cloud using Azure Database Migration Service or AWS SMS.
  • 1-2 years of experience in schema deployment automation via Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions using Flyway or Redgate.
  • Experience with Multi-Tenant environments.

Responsibilities

  • Review and comply with policies and procedures.
  • Perform data analysis and database management.
  • Maintain, enhance, and design data dictionaries, physical and logical database models, and perform performance tuning.
  • Gain knowledge in utilities and production tools used for data storage management to support applications.
  • Design logical and physical databases, reviewing changes to understand their impact.
  • Establish physical database parameters.
  • Use structured query language (SQL) to define database objects (DDL) and control access (DCL).
  • Direct or perform coding of database descriptions.
  • Calculate optimum values for database parameters.
  • Specify user access levels for database segments.
  • Specify which users can access databases and what data they can access.
  • Test and correct errors, and refine changes to the database.
  • Create production databases using SQL.
  • Use database utility programs to monitor database performance.
  • Direct programmers and analysts in making changes to the database management system.
  • Review and correct programs.
  • Answer user questions.
  • Confer with coworkers to determine the impact of database changes on other systems and staff costs.
  • Modify database programs to increase processing performance (performance tuning).
  • Aid in the planning, development, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated database systems.
  • Ensure that the conceptual and design phases of new applications are consistent with the structural parameters within the database environment.
  • Evaluate users' requests for new data elements and systems, incorporate them into the existing shared data environment, and provide technical assistance.
  • Coordinate the use of data to ensure data integrity and control redundancy, load databases, and reorganize as needed.
  • Perform data modeling and prototyping.
  • Perform logical and physical data modeling, design relational database models, and create physical data models from logical data models.
  • Perform security recovery procedures.
  • Determine and implement database search strategies and storage requirements.
  • Maintain the data dictionary, ensuring uniformity of definitions and setting standards for its use.
  • Monitor database performance and recommend efficiency improvements.
  • Create test database environments for the applications section, including necessary libraries and procedures.
  • Execute procedures to save, retrieve, and recover databases from hardware and software failures.
  • Assist with determining, implementing, and enhancing standards on database security.
  • Assist with monitoring agency disaster recovery procedures and systems.
  • Assist with the installation of database software and with analyzing, designing, and implementing databases.
  • Assist in benchmarking and threshold testing of databases.
  • Assist in establishing and controlling necessary database security.
  • Assist in the selection of database management software.
