The Orange County Information Technologies Department has an opening for a Database Administrator. The work involves the responsibility for installing, configuring, maintaining, and securing all County database systems across multiple versions and environments. An employee in this class follows best practices to produce secure solutions and works on a wide variety of systems, including disaster recovery and backup. This position is responsible for enhancing and expanding the use of existing database systems to improve security, automation, query scripting, performance monitoring, and alerting capabilities. The incumbent also investigates new industry developments, such as system productivity tools, design and programming methodologies, documentation approaches, and makes recommendations for current and projected use. Additionally, this role will support developers in implementing proper database design, configuration, and standards, as well as performance tuning and query optimization. Work is performed under the general direction of the Chief Information Officer while typically reporting to the IT Applications Manager or designee with considerable leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding customer needs and requests and conducting project assignments. Supervision over others is not required of this position. Position does related work as required. Position location is Hillsborough, NC and this position does require in-office designated days each week. Background check is required. Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Check is required.
