About The Position

The Texas Rangers are seeking an Infrastructure, Applications & Database Administrator to design, administer, secure, optimize, and strategically evolve the organization's core infrastructure, enterprise applications, databases, and data platforms. The role combines infrastructure engineering, database administration, and application management, with primary technical ownership of SQL Server environments, Amazon Web Services Relational Database Service, PostgreSQL, Tableau, and other business intelligence reporting platforms. This is a highly hands-on position requiring strong troubleshooting skills, project leadership, disciplined documentation, and a commitment to operational excellence. The administrator supports SQL Server, application lifecycle management, and technology implementation, and contributes to organization-wide data initiatives, system performance, and technology modernization efforts.

Requirements

Three years of experience in database administration, infrastructure administration, application support, or a related technical discipline.
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
Experience with Tableau Server, Tableau Cloud, or other BI platforms.
Knowledge of database administration, performance tuning, and security.
Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
Knowledge of ITIL processes and enterprise IT operations.

Nice To Haves

Associate's or bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field is preferred.

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary database administrator for Microsoft SQL Server environments.
Design, implement, and maintain highly available and secure database platforms.
Manage SQL Server installations and upgrades, PostgreSQL environments, Amazon Web Services Relational Database Service, Google Cloud Platform databases, database patching and lifecycle management, backup and recovery strategies, disaster recovery planning, performance tuning and optimization, and replication and high-availability technologies.
Monitor database performance, availability, storage consumption, and growth.
Develop database maintenance plans and operational standards.
Implement database security controls, auditing, encryption, and compliance requirements.
Support data integration, ETL processes, and application data services.
Assist with enterprise data architecture initiatives and modernization projects.
Collaborate with application owners and business stakeholders to improve data availability and usability.
Administer and support Tableau Server and Tableau environments.
Develop governance standards for enterprise reporting and analytics.
Support Tableau or other BI data sources, dashboards, extracts, and integrations.
Coordinate vendor relationships, support escalations, and software upgrades.
Monitor application performance, availability, and system health.
Troubleshoot application- and database-related issues.
Maintain application architecture documentation and support procedures.
Document solution designs, architecture diagrams, and operational guides.
Provide application and security guidance and management of critical platforms to business stakeholders.
Act as 3rd-level support and troubleshoot business and baseball systems.
Work with the organization's cybersecurity consultants to maintain secure technology platforms.
Ensure compliance with security policies, governance standards, and regulatory requirements.
Support vulnerability remediation efforts.
Participate in risk assessments and security reviews.
Assist with incident response investigations involving identity, data, or applications.
Implement monitoring and auditing controls across infrastructure and data platforms.
Perform other duties as assigned.
