About The Position

The Database Administrator II, under general supervision, routinely performs complex and non-routine specialized data management and administration support functions including troubleshooting, analysis, research, problem-solving, and recovery. This role involves implementing database design activities, managing physical descriptions of database components, and installing and testing database systems. The position also entails maintaining and upgrading complex, multiplatform databases, monitoring their performance for optimum efficiency, and resolving performance problems. Additionally, the Database Administrator II is responsible for executing database recoveries, troubleshooting and repairing databases, and documenting all database issues, recoveries, and repairs. A key aspect of the role is client support and collaboration, working with clients to identify database needs that align with their goals, providing support for data access for analysis and modeling, and collaborating closely with graduate students and faculty to build integrated databases specific to wildlife research programs. The position also includes reviewing documentation accuracy, ensuring adherence to security procedures, coordinating technical activities of small project teams, and assisting/mentoring students and staff with technical issues. Miscellaneous duties related to the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute’s research and teaching mission may also be assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of related experience in data management.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Knowledge of advanced analysis, troubleshooting, and problem-solving techniques
  • Knowledge of client relations and requirement analysis
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies, context, and interrelationships, and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to work in a standard office environment using computer equipment
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while performing data-related tasks

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cloud-based databases and AWS accounts
  • Experience with data common to wildlife research programs (e.g., animal location data, remote camera images, vegetation data, remote sensing images, GIS data)
  • Knowledge of and experience with Amazon Web Services data storage platforms

Responsibilities
