About The Position

The position functions as a senior information technology analyst responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing a variety of automated data warehouse applications located on the State of Michigan’s Teradata Data Warehouse platform. The position will represent the team and coordinate team activities with other data warehouse teams on complex, multi-team projects. In addition, the position will work with other data warehouse developers to review existing data warehouse policies and practices, modify them as needed, or propose new polices or practices. This position is part of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Data Warehouse Team. Knowledge of SQL, Business Intelligence tools, and experience with the relational database is required to help develop and maintain DHHS data warehouse ETL and queries.

Requirements

  • 6+ Years: Creating Data Warehouse BI applications including ETL/data mart development, reporting, dashboards and other information analysis and delivery systems.
  • 2+ Years: Child Welfare Services, Juvenile Justice, Juvenile services, or other related experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical study.
  • Knowledge of SQL.
  • Knowledge of Business Intelligence tools.
  • Experience with relational databases.
  • Must be able to work independently with little direction.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must undergo a background check and drug screening for employment.

  • Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with programmers, analysts, immediate supervisor, management, system users, operations, other State agencies and the private sector.

  • Recognize, gather, correlate, and analyze facts, draw conclusions, define problems, and devise solutions and alternatives and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Experience working with Data Modelers and developers, facilitating modification of the logical design to create a physical design most suited to the reporting needs of the customer.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, maintaining, and enhancing automated data warehouse applications on the State of Michigan’s Teradata Data Warehouse platform.
  • Representing the team and coordinating team activities with other data warehouse teams on complex, multi-team projects.
  • Reviewing existing data warehouse policies and practices, modifying them as needed, or proposing new policies or practices.
  • Developing and maintaining DHHS data warehouse ETL and queries.
  • Designing applications considering data reconciliation, query/reporting performance, and analytical business value.
  • Presenting gathered information to the Project Review Board and/or Project Sponsors during project review meetings, project workgroups and to the Technical Review Board providing clarification and answers to questions.
  • Consulting with agency clients to explain complex IT processes and solutions, developing and maintaining an effective communication plan with DTMB and agency clients relating to project level metrics, bureau level project reporting, etc.
  • Assisting Architect or DBA to draft technical database models that comply with audit separation of duty requirements, capture requirements of data elements, and design data elements to best meet application needs.
  • Reviewing and approving updates to systems documentation.
  • Gathering, reviewing, and analyzing potential impacts of changes and informing DTMB management and supported client agency of impact and risks to existing IT solutions due to proposed legislation, enhancement requests, changes in government requests, changes in governmental processes or procedures.
  • Providing professional technical expertise to the DTMB AS PMO Managers and client agency managers and supervisors in IT project estimating, and budgeting.
  • Serving as a team lead and resource, directing the code development, providing advice and guidance to other development staff.
  • Evaluating and identifying opportunities for programming process or tools standardization.
  • Performing disaster recovery planning and implementation.
  • Providing input to procedures and ensuring proper change management for all requested fixes to production systems.
  • Reviewing and approving test plans.
  • Incorporating all levels of security, which were identified as system requirements, into test plans.
