Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is hiring a Software Engineer in the National Security Engineering Division within the Engineering Directorate to develop software for ASD Scorpius, a next-generation linear induction accelerator. The accelerator will generate precisely timed, high-energy X-ray images during subcritical experiments, supporting scientists' understanding of material behavior under extreme conditions. The role focuses on developing data-visualization and user-interface capabilities that let scientists and engineers access, understand, and interact with complex accelerator and experimental data. The engineer will build software connecting data-recall systems, databases, and accelerator controls, turning large volumes of technical information into useful tools for the multidisciplinary team commissioning and operating the system. The position involves collaboration with software developers, controls engineers, scientists, and project personnel, and offers the opportunity to contribute through development, integration, and commissioning. This is a career-indefinite position requiring full-time on-site presence. The work requires the ability to secure and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
