About The Position

Steampunk is seeking a Data Visualization Engineer to build executive dashboards for a large federal advisory program. This role involves translating wireframed designs and client data into production-ready, accessible visualizations that help leadership make faster, better-informed decisions. The engineer will build the integrated CX/executive dashboard and program-management dashboards from wireframes validated with leadership audiences. They will design and deliver dashboard solutions with attention to functionality, data security, system integration, and performance. A key responsibility is ensuring dashboards meet Section 508/WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards and stated accuracy/satisfaction targets. The role requires building dashboards from authoritative, government-approved data repositories rather than manually assembled data, and applying open data format/export standards where dashboards surface data intended for client reuse.

Requirements

• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance
• Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of total experience
• 4+ years of data visualization or BI development experience
• Demonstrated experience building accessible (Section 508/WCAG 2.1) dashboards
• Experience with executive-level reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent)
• Working knowledge of data management disciplines, including data modeling, data integration, data security, and data quality, sufficient to build dashboards from authoritative source systems
• Ability to participate in stakeholder sessions to translate analytic and reporting requirements into dashboard specifications
• Experience working within an Agile software development lifecycle
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical/data concepts for audiences of varying technical levels
