The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) is one of the largest public health agencies in the world, serving 8 million New Yorkers. With grant funds from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), DOHMH is undertaking a new initiative to modernize its data infrastructure and capabilities. This initiative aims to improve public health outcomes, including those related to COVID-19, by rebalancing investments and serving communities more equitably. The agency is embarking on a data modernization initiative to accelerate its data strategy, moving from siloed systems to connected, resilient, and adaptable ones. This involves not only technology but also the right people, processes, and policies. The modernization strategy focuses on key areas such as data collection, storage, processing, integration, analysis, reporting, and visualization. The DMI initiative will build foundational technology capabilities within the Division of Information Technology, increasing capacity and experience with Azure cloud technologies within the broader NYC cloud and cybersecurity infrastructure, all within the context of public health. The selected candidate will be an employee of PHS, but work will be supervised by DOHMH. This is a grant-funded position ending in November 2027.
