About The Position

Installs and operates electronic flow monitors, smoking equipment and remote TV camera system to conduct tests and video inside sewer lines to compile reports used to determine need for sewer repairs. Enters data gathered into computer, formulates reports and/or makes graphs. Uses computer programs, GPS, GIS, and Granite. Performs related duties as required. Employee will be required to perform on-call duties on a rotating schedule.

Requirements

  • High school graduate of GED is the minimum requirement for position.
  • Specialized training in relation to electronic and computer based equipment and software.
  • One year experience working in a wastewater collection system which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Possession of a valid Drivers License and a clean driving record is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions for electronic systems and procedures.
  • Ability to write routine reports, correspondence and record keeping.
  • Ability to read blue prints.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to draw and read all graphs types.
  • Ability to apply commonsense to carryout instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Must be able to obtain Fort Benning Access required.

Nice To Haves

  • A NASSCO Pipeline Assessment Certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Helps locate line sections to be videoed.
  • Determines setup and confined space procedures.
  • Assists in setting up cable stands over manholes.
  • Floats rope used to pull camera to adjacent manhole to thread through sewer lines.
  • Attaches pulling cable to camera in sewer line and to turn cable stand handles that enables camera to move inside the pipe.
  • Videos at intervals using judgment until camera reaches downstream manhole.
  • Detaches camera from cable, rewinds cable into reel and disassembles equipment.
  • Confers with supervisor to discuss condition of sewer lines as shown in videos.
  • Drives truck to haul crew and equipment.
  • Occasionally services, adjusts, and makes minor repairs to camera, equipment and attachments.
  • Communicates with supervisor verbally and in writing.
  • Coordinates with the Engineering Staff on aspects of the video product.
  • During absence of supervisor, gives direction to workers in efficient and safe use of camera and equipment, work methods and safety precautions.
  • Prepares daily reports listing lines photographed.
  • Installs flow monitoring devices in manholes to determine if excessive flow exists as an indication of needed sewer repairs.
