About The Position

MacDonald-Miller Facility Solutions is seeking a Data Team Lead to manage their data and analytics platform and the team responsible for it. This is a player-coach role where the individual will lead BI Analysts and Data Engineers while remaining hands-on with the architecture, complex problems, and strategic deliverables. The team focuses on building a data warehouse, creating a semantic layer for business measurement, developing Power BI reports for decision-making, and partnering with stakeholders to leverage data for improved business outcomes. The company is a Microsoft shop heavily investing in Fabric as its data platform foundation. This role reports to the Senior Director of IT and directly leads the BI and data engineering team.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in BI, analytics, or data engineering roles, with a proven track record of delivering production-ready solutions that drove meaningful business outcomes.
  • Leadership experience (direct people management, leading technical initiatives, or serving as a senior IC).
  • Strong Power BI expertise, including advanced DAX, semantic modeling, and workspace governance.
  • Strong SQL skills, including complex joins, stored procedures, query optimization, and working with large datasets.
  • Hands-on experience within the Microsoft Azure data ecosystem, particularly Microsoft Fabric and/or Azure Data Factory.
  • Experience designing and building data warehouses and dimensional data models.
  • Experience developing ETL/ELT pipelines, including data cleansing, transformation, and validation processes.
  • Proven ability to partner with non-technical business leaders by translating ambiguous business needs into actionable data solutions and influencing decision-making.
  • Active, day-to-day use of AI tools to improve engineering productivity, analysis, documentation, and development workflows.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with executives, technical teams, and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully lead the ERP data transition into Microsoft Fabric.
  • Ensure historical and new ERP data flow together seamlessly so the business maintains trusted reporting through go-live.
  • Build a certified semantic layer to create one trusted source for key metrics like revenue, margin, utilization, and labor hours across the company.
  • Become a strategic partner to business leaders by understanding their challenges and delivering data to aid decision-making.
  • Modernize and simplify the Power BI environment by refactoring outdated reports, improving performance, and establishing reporting standards and governance.
  • Create strong team operating standards, including implementing clear sprint cadence, intake processes, documentation standards, code reviews, and prioritization methods.
  • Develop and grow the data team by coaching team members, creating growth plans, and building a high-performing, accountable team culture.
  • Drive AI adoption across the team using tools like Copilot and ChatGPT to improve development speed, documentation, analysis, and overall team productivity.
  • Focus the team on business decisions, not just dashboards, measuring success by the impact of data on business decisions and operational improvements.
