About The Position

Involves technical acumen for planning, designing, developing, implementing and administering data-based systems that acquire, prepare, store and provide access to data and metadata. Maintains and optimizes systems and migrates data and systems as needed. Ensures integrity and completeness of data and workflow, manages and / or develops data practices, databases and information systems as well as guidelines, dictionaries, registries and / or services. May include interpretation of scientific research data artifacts as well as mediation across science and technology domains and long-term data care. As information architect and data steward, designs systems, data products and / or data production processes while focusing on data curation, data exchange, data security, data integrity and information environments. Reevaluates frameworks, strategies, standards and standards-making activities. May involve work with a project-level data repository, a center or an archive. Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Having significant experience, the Data Systems Analyst, Pharmacy Analytics applies advanced data / information management concepts and medical center objectives to resolve highly complex issues where analyses of situations, information or data require an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. The Data Systems Analyst, Pharmacy Analytics selects methods and techniques to obtain desired results, managing projects at all levels of complexity and scope. Additionally, the Data Systems Analyst, Analytics has a high degree of knowledge in revenue cycle functions and is a recognized expertise in data analytics; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and/or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Department Overview: The Department of Pharmaceutical Services provides a full range of contemporary services for patients cared by the UCSF Medical Center, as well as its providers and payers. The UCSF Pharmacy Enterprise encompasses Inpatient Pharmacy Services, Ambulatory Care Services, Specialty Drug Pharmacy, Pharmacy Business Services, Pharmacy Informatics, Medication Safety and Regulatory Compliance, Oncology Infusion Services, 340B Management, Pharmacy Revenue Cycle and Central Pharmacy Production and Repackaging Services. The Department of Pharmaceutical Services is fully responsible for the medication use process across the health system. The services provided by pharmacy include, but are not limited to, drug procurement, drug storage and security; safe, accurate and timely preparation and distribution of drugs; clinical pharmacy services for patients; drug information services for clinicians and patients; retail specialty drug pharmacy services; ambulatory care pharmacy services; oversight of sate medication practices; antimicrobial stewardship; pharmacy oncology infusion services; pharmacy revenue cycle; central drug production and distribution with state-of-the-art automation; and development and management of drug use policies and procedures within the Medical Center. The Departmentis integrated with theDepartment of ClinicalPharmacy, an academic campus unit within the School of Pharmacy,which has a primary responsibility for teaching professional courses in the PharmD curriculum, research, and publicservice. Department of Pharmaceutical Services provides inpatient pharmacy services for Moffitt Long Hospital at Parnassus, Benioff Children’s Hospital in Mission Bay and Mount Zion Hospital. The inpatient pharmacies provide clinical and drug distribution services to the associated clinics and medical offices of each hospital.

Requirements

Experience designing and creating reports, scorecards, and dashboards using Tableau, Power BI, or any data visualization tools.
In-depth understanding of the issues, processes, reporting instruments, metrics, dashboard design, and other tools and techniques involved with measuring and analyzing the revenue cycle.
Advanced organizational and project management skills, and ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule.
Advanced skills in report development, dashboard design, and various software tools specific to healthcare revenue cycle management. Skills in common database, spreadsheet and presentation software.
Advanced communications skills, with the ability to interpret and convey complex clinical finance information in a clear, concise manner. Ability to prepare compelling and informative reports and presentations to all levels of staff and management.
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of workflows and systems in revenue cycle program areas, to identify weaknesses and develop innovative solutions and process improvements.
Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively on highly-complex projects in a team environment with a wide variety of business and clinical areas.
Strong ability to advise management, serving as a technical expert, providing proposals for improvement and guidance on regulatory changes and industry trends and developments in revenue cycle management.
Thorough knowledge of issues in pharmacy revenue cycle, billing, claims processing and reimbursement.
Knowledge of Pharmacy Revenue Management Tools. Skills to effectively utilize the tools to produce meaningful findings and actionable intelligence.
In-depth knowledge of the practices, procedures, and concepts of the healthcare revenue cycle and its component operations, including billing, collections, charge capture, contractual adjustments, third-party reimbursements, and cash management.
High degree of knowledge of MS Excel required; Experience with MS Application (e.g. Word, Visio, PowerPoint, SQL Server/Access)
Three (3) years of experience

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of and experience working with Healthcare specific EMR, Decision Support, and Financial accounting software. (e.g. Epic, Tag Bio or similar).

Responsibilities

Designs, deploys, and manages SQL Server reports to meet the automated monitoring needs of various stakeholders.
Develops and maintains Tableau dashboards to facilitate data-driven decision-making across the Pharmacy Enterprise.
Designs, maintains, and recommends improvements for MS SQL Server databases, including those that support the Pharmacy Analytics web application.
Plans and conducts data analysis efforts for highly complex small and medium-sized projects that may include managing partnerships between multiple institutions. Establishes or maintains information documentation standards such as data naming standards and value domain descriptions. Schedules and conducts analysis sessions. Documents ownership, custody and access requirements for data subject areas.
Creates and implements SQL Server Integration packages to automate data integration, migration, and transformation tasks.
Performs advanced data analyses to extract actionable insights from pharmacy clinical and revenue cycle data.
Manages Pharmacy Analytical Tools to identify potential data and/or data integrity issues to reduce claim denials and improve revenue capture.
Collaborates with stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translates them into effective data analysis solutions.
Documents best practice guidelines to assure consistency across projects within the Pharmacy Analytics Team.
Participates in various workgroups serving as the subject matter expert as it relates to pharmacy data.
Works with Information Technology to define needs and system enhancements. Design models, using input from departments, operational experience, and best practice research. Statistical and financial results in departments and on the workflows and system efficiencies.
