About The Position

The Data Solutions Engineer is responsible for building, managing, and optimizing data pipelines to support business initiatives. This role oversees moving pipelines into production, ensures compliance with data governance and security standards, and enables integrated, reusable data processes. As a central resource, the data engineer works with IT and business units to deliver analytics and data science solutions, requiring innovation, problem-solving, and collaboration. The role also promotes effective data management practices and improves understanding of data and analytics. Success is measured by how well data capabilities are integrated and aligned with business outcomes. Implements organization s goals, may provide input into strategic goals for IT. Conducts research, evaluates data, and reports on findings, supporting the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and programs. Has familiarity with the IT budget, may provide input into spending decisions, particularly as pertains to vendors, systems, and projects. Typically works on projects and initiatives that span 12 months 2 years.

Requirements

  • Two years of college education or experience equivalency, and a minimum of 3 years experience in data management disciplines including data integration, data modeling, data optimization and data quality.
  • Proficient in database programming and scripting languages like SQL and Python with advanced proficiency for querying, manipulating data, and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced knowledge of data formats (JSON, XML, CSV), data mapping, and transformation logic.
  • Proven expertise in designing, managing, and supporting integrations using APIs, ETL processes or middleware platforms between multiple enterprise applications (ERP, CRM, digital channels, data warehousing).
  • Demonstrated experience working with large, heterogeneous datasets to build and optimize data pipelines, architectures, and integrated datasets using traditional data integration technologies (ETL/ELT, data replication/CDC, message-oriented data movement, API integration), along with hands-on expertise in ETL and data pipeline tools and frameworks and a proven ability to engineer robust ETL and pipeline workflows.
  • Experience with Cloud Platforms; Azure and/or AWS and strong familiarity with as-a-Service solutions specifically cloud data solutions.
  • Experience working with popular data discovery, analytics, and BI software tools for semantic-layer-based data discovery.
  • Proven experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with business stakeholders in support of departmental and/or multi-departmental data management and analytics initiatives.
  • Previous experience with software engineering principles is strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operations pertaining to all aspects of data pipelines including the creation, maintenance and optimization of organization data capabilities and demands.
  • Optimize existing ETL processes, data integration, and data pipeline flows. Perform advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of integration or data integrity issues. Provide production support including analysis, design, implementation and testing.
  • Support enterprise data initiatives such as data warehouses, AI workflows, and reporting needs by enabling governed, reliable data that drives business decisions and maximizes the value of data as a strategic asset.
  • Oversee data governance, data quality, and security standards for new and existing data pipelines while directing the design and documentation of data mappings, interface specifications, and system dependencies; lead testing, validation, and deployment of integration solutions across environments, and ensure effective knowledge transfer to internal teams.
  • Develop relationships with stakeholders and subject matter experts across the organization to enhance requirements for various data initiatives and consumption needs.
  • Promote the available data resources and expertise to business unit leaders to educate around the benefits in leveraging data, as an asset, to achieving their business goals.
  • Leverage modern tools, techniques, and architectures to automate common, repetitive, and tedious data tasks to minimize manual and error-prone processes and increase productivity.
  • Project and Change Management: Effectively plans and manages own work to reliably complete routine job responsibilities and special assignments. May serve as a team member or subject matter expert on formal projects or within the department. Effectively engages in change affecting her/him, communicating appropriately with supervisor. Follows through on learning, skill building, and practice necessary to adapt to change.
  • Problem Solving: Light supervision; works independently. Periodic review of work by manager or senior coworker. Solves problems of moderate to advanced complexity; able to identify root cause, interpret data and resolve issues.
  • Technical Skill: Understands and applies professional principles and skills within area of specialization to modify processes to resolve situations.
  • Community Engagement: Champions Goodwills community engagement initiatives and serves as an ambassador for Goodwill in the wider community.
  • Responsible for completing other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
