About The Position

The Public Employees Retirement System is recruiting for one (1) Data Services Retirement Plan Analyst (Retirement Counselor 1) in the Operations Division (OD), Member Account Adjustment Team (MAAT). This is a full-time, permanent position. This position is based at our headquarters in Tigard, Oregon. It is a remote work position. This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). We serve the people of Oregon by administering public employee benefit trusts to pay the right person, the right benefit, at the right time. Operations Division (OD) The PERS Operations Division provides services to PERS members along the entire life cycle of their public service career: from their first job with a PERS-participating employer until their retirement. The division helps ensure that PERS fulfills its mission to provide the right person the right benefit at the right time. The Operations Division supports four benefit programs for members of the three PERS plans (Tier One, Tier Two, and the Oregon Public Service Retirement Plan (OPSRP)): 1. The lifetime pension. 2. The Individual Account Program (IAP). 3. The Oregon Savings Growth Plan (OSGP). 4. The PERS Health Insurance Program (PHIP). The Data Services Section housed within the PERS Operations Division umbrella, is responsible for partnering with and supporting the 900 plus PERS participating employers by collecting, managing, analyzing and maintaining all PERS member data. Data Services is comprised of three teams, the Data Integrity Group, Employer Service Center and Member Account Adjustment Team, all playing their own critical role in helping ensure PERS member data is accurate and complete. Member Account Adjustment Team (MAAT) The Member Account Adjustment Team (MAAT) within the Data Services Section is responsible for analyzing and correcting the details of a PERS member account, so that monthly pension benefits are calculated based on accurate data. MAAT is comprised of Retirement Counselor 1 & 2 staff who are divided into three focused workgroups. They are staff who work on accounts once someone has applied for pension benefits, those who work on Individual Account Program (IAP) withdrawals, and those working a variety of other circumstances where account data needs reconciliation. These three workgroups are supported by Operations and Policy Analysts and an Office Specialist. What you will be doing: The purpose of Data Services Retirement Plan Analyst (RC1) is to audit and resolve retirement pension account data so that accurate pension benefits are paid to PERS members. This position reviews and analyzes retirement accounts to ensure the data on each account coincides with the governing standards. This position coordinates the reconciliation of account data by gathering missing account information via email from member employers (Cities, Counties, School Districts, etc.), and ensuring the information received fills the gaps in data on each account. This position takes about a year for someone to become fully independent from training staff and Lead Workers who are there to support you and invest in your long-term productivity. We start off gradually and allow time for you to become comfortable utilizing a library of policy documents, desk level procedures, and business rules. There are staff to answer your questions and to help you establish your own best practices. After the first year, staff typically work on 15 to 20 accounts at a time, over the course of 6 to 8 weeks each. Requirements

  • One year of experience researching or reconciling accounts AND explaining rules, programs or procedures.
  • One year of calculating payment amounts AND explaining rules, programs, or procedures.
  • 12 quarter (8 semester) college level credit hours in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
