The Data Security Engineer role is within the Data Services department, which is responsible for all data applications across the company’s divisions, including Big Data Solutions, Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence, Analytics, and Data Science. This is a hands-on technical role focused on ensuring data security through monitoring, enforcing, and implementing security processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, Computer Science or equivalent experience required.
  • Good Scripting knowledge in SQL and Powershell.
  • Experience using cloud environments e.g. AWS, Azure or GCS.
  • Programming experience (Any Programming Language like Python).
  • Good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Powershell or other shell language
  • Good understanding of security principles & Standards

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Architecture team to implement the Data and Platform architecture from a Security and Compliance view.
  • Aid the Data Governance, Data Engineering, Data Science and other teams in terms of Security requests and implementing Security Policies.
  • Generate Audit reports and make sure the Security standards and Policies are adhered.
  • Administer Vulnerability assessments & Security threats and ensure actions are followed up.
  • Help report and manage security risks with the Cyber-Security and Compliance teams.
  • Liaise with the Cyber Security and Compliance teams on a regular basis to discuss strategy, trends and audits.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of the company's data security strategy.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of security policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with the executive team to align security strategies with business goals.
  • Should be keen towards automating Security Tasks, Reports and Alerts where it be ergonomic from a team perspective.
  • Ensure compliance with PII regulations through encryption, tokenization, and redaction techniques, safeguarding customer data.
  • Drive continuous improvement in data security practices.
  • Ensure the company's data security posture remains ahead of emerging threats.
  • Take part in infrastructure and development related workshops and meetings.
  • Available to work out of normal business hours and weekends when required.
