About The Position

NEC is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Scientist to support enterprise data initiatives, develop advanced analytical models, and enable data-driven decision-making across engineering, manufacturing, security, and operational domains. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in statistical modeling, machine learning, data engineering, and applied analytics, with the ability to translate complex technical insights into actionable business outcomes.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Minimum 6 years of industry experience in data science, machine learning, or advanced analytics.
Demonstrated expertise in Python or R, SQL, and modern machine learning libraries (e.g., scikit‑learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, XGBoost).
Strong background in statistical modeling, predictive analytics, and experimental design.
Experience building and deploying production-grade ML models and data pipelines.
Solid understanding of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and CI/CD methodologies.
Ability to work with structured and unstructured data from diverse sources.
Excellent communication skills and experience presenting insights to technical and non‑technical audiences.
U.S. citizenship (required for positions requiring government security clearance).

Nice To Haves

Experience working in regulated industries such as nuclear, defense, aerospace, or government contracting.
Familiarity with MLOps tools, containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), or distributed computing.
Knowledge of reliability analytics, manufacturing analytics, anomaly detection, or sensor data modeling.
Active or eligible for a U.S. government security clearance.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and deploy predictive models, machine learning algorithms, and advanced analytics solutions to support NEC’s mission and strategic goals.
Partner with engineering, manufacturing, cybersecurity, program management, and IT teams to identify high-impact opportunities for data science applications.
Lead end-to-end analytical project cycles: problem scoping, data acquisition, data cleaning, feature engineering, modeling, validation, and deployment.
Develop dashboards, data pipelines, and analytical tools that enable non‑technical users to leverage insights effectively.
Communicate findings, model performance, and recommendations to senior leaders and technical stakeholders in a clear, concise manner.
Ensure model robustness, fairness, and compliance with regulatory and security requirements.
Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to best practices, standards, and reusable model frameworks.
Maintain awareness of emerging analytical methods, tools, and technologies relevant to NEC’s mission.
