About The Position

The Data Scientist will help build Stanford Health Care’s artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions for patient care, medical research, and administrative services. The role partners with clinical specialties and operational teams to develop and deploy algorithms intended to improve patient outcomes. Reporting to the Data Science Director and working closely with Stanford Medicine’s inaugural Chief Data Scientist, the Data Scientist develops AI solutions—from predictive algorithms to agentic systems—and brings them into healthcare in a safe, ethical, and cost-effective manner. The role includes designing, implementing, and supporting machine learning models for clinical use.

Requirements

  • PhD or MS degree in statistics, informatics, or a related field.
  • For candidates with an MS degree: at least 4 years of related experience applying solutions to problems.
  • Ability to write code in SQL, R, or Python to process large datasets in distributed cloud environments, and experience processing and analyzing healthcare data.
  • Experience developing, evaluating, and implementing machine learning models.
  • Experience working with clinicians and researchers across disciplines to develop approaches for clinical care.
  • Graduate-level understanding of machine learning, knowledge representation, and artificial intelligence, along with a strong understanding of statistics.
  • Knowledge of software development, machine learning, and technology infrastructure.
