About The Position

This position is responsible for leading end-to-end data science efforts within the FPL Offerings (FPLO) organization. The Data Scientist will support various FPLO product lines by developing algorithms, modeling techniques, and optimization methods for analyzing and reporting financial information. The role involves designing and implementing advanced statistical and machine learning models to analyze revenues, expenses, and other key performance indicators, allowing the business lines to actively manage operations. The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders to identify and develop financial requirements. The successful candidate must be proficient in compiling and aggregating financial data from various sources to develop comprehensive financial reports. This role is also responsible for the creation and maintenance of financial reports on the FPLES Finance PowerBI dashboard. This role requires substantial experience with financial concepts, machine learning, optimization, statistics, and tools designed for data extraction, manipulation and analysis. This position is responsible for developing algorithms, modeling techniques, and optimization methods that support many aspects of NextEra and FPL business. Employees in this role use knowledge of machine learning, optimization, statistics, and applied mathematics along with abilities in software engineering with a focus on distributed computing and data storage infrastructure (e.g. “Big Data”).

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in a highly quantitative field (e.g., Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Econometrics, Mathematics, Financial Engineering, or a related discipline)
4+ years of experience in data science, quantitative analysis, or a related role
Strong proficiency in SQL and Python (or R) for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis
Bachelor’s Degree
Experience: 2+ years

Responsibilities

Develops machine learning, optimization, and other modeling solutions.
Creates and maintains numerous financial reports on the FPLO Finance PowerBI dashboard.
Supports product teams to create and execute channel and product growth strategy through the creation and ongoing maintenance of financial reports and analytics.
Works with big data and distributed computing platforms.
Prepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses, and interpretations of results, including technical reports, summaries, and quantitative analyses.
Delivers actionable insights by working with available data and applying domain expertise.
Provides meaningful business value through easy-to-comprehend data visualizations.
Enables others to perform self-service analytics.
Develops an understanding of and positively impacts the financial performance of product lines.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Works with a variety of datasets, including timeseries data and “big data” requiring analysis on distributed computing platforms
Writes software in R, Python or similar languages and contributes code to product development teams
