About The Position

PayPal, Inc. seeks Sr. Data Scientist in Chicago, IL. This role involves helping to reduce card losses by developing and optimizing risk strategies throughout the customer lifecycle. The position will drive business strategy recommendations through data analytics on card authorization and PayPal customer data. The Data Scientist will develop innovative card risk solutions while collaborating with key stakeholders in core payments, operations, risk, finance, and product owners. They will develop and optimize risk strategies for PayPal, leveraging knowledge of U.S. or international financial markets, card networks, and customer spending behavior. The role includes managing a portfolio of relationships to ensure payment solutions meet financial and timeline objectives, creatively leveraging partnerships to further PayPal’s strategic business objectives, and developing business cases in support of new risk policies, risk vendor integrations, and PayPal risk infrastructure enhancements. The Data Scientist will also define risk requirements for product initiatives and prioritize them with partner teams, and consult/partner with other PayPal business and technology groups to assure the optimal deployment of payment solutions to satisfy customer needs and corporate objectives. Partial telecommuting is permitted from a commutable distance.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Engineering, Statistics or a closely related field plus two years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Experience analyzing and solving financial risk cases using regression and logistics statistical methods and Python (2 years).
  • Experience in fraud and risk management for debit card end to end lifecycle. Construct, implement, and fine-tune risk strategies across debit card platforms. (2 years)
  • Use A/B testing and statistical validation to refine fraud rules. (2 years)
  • Experience developing SQL queries on large-scale financial transaction databases (2 years).
  • Experience developing machine learning models using Python to predict transaction-level risk alerts and support fraud detection for payment systems. (2 years)
  • Industry experience in payments, e-commerce, or financial services (2 years).
  • Experience collaborating with product, operation and engineering teams in financial services to investigate and resolve technical problems (2 years).
  • Experience building and visualizing risk metrics in Tableau and Looker dashboards to monitor approval trends, decline rates and loss ratios. Experience setting up ring alert to inform business decisions (2 years).
