About The Position

Seagate is seeking a Sr. Data Scientist with strong technical capabilities to translate business needs into scalable, data‑driven solutions. This role combines business analysis, solution architecture, and hands‑on development across supply chain, procurement, and finance domains. The ideal candidate can define problems, design solutions, and contribute directly to development, while partnering with IT to ensure production scalability and alignment with enterprise standards. This role is expected to drive data‑informed decision‑making at Director and VP levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or related field and 5+ years of experience, or Master’s degree in the same fields and 3+ years of experience, or PhD and 0+ years of experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Proven experience delivering end‑to‑end solutions that combine business analysis and technical development.
  • Experience applying AI tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT) to automate workflows or enhance analysis.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with Python (or similar programming languages).
  • Hands‑on experience building data pipelines, analytics solutions, or automation tools.
  • Experience working with enterprise systems (SAP, S/4HANA, Ariba, IBP, or comparable).
  • Experience using version control systems (e.g., GitHub, GitLab).
  • Ability to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
  • Experience supporting cost modeling, forecasting, or decision analytics.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decision‑making with senior stakeholders (Director/VP level).
  • Experience with dashboarding tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data engineering, ETL, and BI/dashboard development.
  • Familiarity with supply chain, manufacturing, procurement, or finance data.
  • Experience with SAP data extraction (e.g., CDS views, BW, interfaces).
  • Exposure to APIs, B2B, or EDI integrations.
  • Experience with time‑series modeling.
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, evolving problem spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with stakeholders to define use cases, success metrics, and decision outcomes.
  • Translate complex business problems into clear functional and technical requirements.
  • Design scalable solutions that improve processes and reduce manual effort.
  • Own solution intent (what and why) while aligning with IT on execution.
  • Build and enhance data pipelines, models, and analytics solutions.
  • Develop and maintain production‑quality code (SQL, Python, or similar).
  • Create dashboards and analytical tools that support executive decision‑making.
  • Contribute to system integrations (e.g., APIs, ETL, EDI, SAP‑adjacent systems).
  • Design data models with strong data quality, traceability, and governance.
  • Automate manual workflows using scripting or low‑code tools.
  • Ensure reconciliation and auditability, particularly for cost and supplier data.
  • Balance speed of delivery with long‑term scalability and maintainability.
  • Lead cross‑functional initiatives with end‑to‑end ownership.
  • Collaborate with IT, security, and architecture teams to meet enterprise standards.
  • Communicate clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Drive decision‑making at Director and VP levels through data‑driven insights.
  • Drive adoption and ensure solutions deliver measurable business impact.
